Wade Waterbury
for
Kansas House of Representatives, District 94
Why?
I am running for State House of Representatives because it is time to roll back the wasteful government spending starting right here in Kansas.
I want to make one thing very clear; It is time to bring the power back to the Voters. That is why I have decided to run. I want to represent the Voters of Wichita, not the major corporations and lobbyists.
The Kansas State Government seems to think the way to balance the budget is to cut education. The Federal Government thinks we should increase our national debt and have the future generations pay for it. We are asking our children to do more, a lot more, with less and taking away their tools for success in the process.

Who?
I am Wade Waterbury. I grew up on a farm outside the small town of Pierce, Nebraska. I put myself through college as a transmission mechanic and received my Bachelor's degree from Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska. My family and I moved to Wichita, Kansas in 1994. I received my Master's of Business Administration from Wichita State University.
I have worked 16+ years as a consumer lender; a loan officer that deals in all types of consumer lending like Real Estate, Automotive and Personal. In the last two years, I have seen drastic changes in the financial situations of the citizens of Wichita. After sitting down one-on-one with people and seeing their hardships and the struggle to meet their monthly obligations, I have realized that there needs to be a change in the way our government operates.

What?
Reign-in Spending: I will not vote for any increases in budgets or any special interest projects. The budget has gotten out of control. In the business world we do across-the-board cuts, and get rid of obsolete and inefficient projects rather than go over budget. I believe the taxpayer’s dollar in government is just as important as the investor’s dollar in business. Shareholders don't allow their dollars to be wasted. If it does happen, the board of directors are voted out. Taxpayer's should not allow government representatives to waste their dollar either and if it does happen, they should vote them out in the same way.
Control Tax Increases: The recent one cent sales tax increase can actually be converted to a 16 percent sales tax increase! I believe that the people actually paying such a tax increase should be allowed to vote for it or against it.
Stop Cutting Education: We all pay our property taxes to support our schools. Our property tax hasn't gone down, so why has the school funding gone down? The money should stay in education and non-essential projects should be cut! We cannot afford to sacrifice the education of our children and grandchildren and expect them to accomplish everything that will be expected of them in the future. That makes no sense to anyone.
College tuition continues to rise in Kansas. In 1985 the state contributed almost 50% to the cost of operating state colleges, but by 2005 that was slashed to just 26%. The student is now forced to figure out how to cover the increased costs. We need to put importance back on affordable, quality education!
Transparency: I promise to bring more transparency to State lawmaking. The back-room deals and pet projects need to be a thing of the past on both Federal and State levels. For my part, every bill and deal I am working on will get posted online using common tools such as YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. These tools of communication are already in place and working; it is time for Government to utilize them.
Economic Development: We need to find new sources to improve the economy in Wichita and Kansas. That means offering incentives for new businesses and aggressively going after them. These incentives must make sense for everyone involved; we cannot throw away taxpayers precious money!! In addition, unemployment is at a record high. I will focus on creating jobs to help our communities and our families.
Control Welfare Abuse: We need to look at abuses in welfare and implement laws to limit abuse and impose heavy penalties on those who do abuse it. There should not be any free rides.
Changing of the Guard: I would support the introduction of term limits for State Legislatures. Term limits ensure a systematic way to bring fresh ideas and fresh approaches to problems facing Kansans.
Immigration Reform: I am in support of State Immigration Control to keep our citizens of Kansas safeguarded. I understand wanting to live in this great country. Having the desire to prosper and live a better life in a country such as the United States, which has a better economy and is more prosperous than others, makes it the land where dreams can come true. But a lot of the people looking for a better life or fleeing from their own country are entering the United States illegally and therefore, breaking the laws of this country. This high influx of illegal immigrants is placing a burden on our already over-burdened social system. The Federal Government has refused for years to enforce the existing border and immigration laws. Because of this, it is then left up to the individual States to develop and enforce their own laws.
Stop Using Public Funds to Support Free Enterprise: We need support incentives that bring jobs to Wichita and Kansas, and need to vote down incentives and bonds for pet projects and any projects that cause damage to existing Kansas businesses and jobs (like the bowling alley). I agree that government has to offer some tax breaks and incentives to bring jobs to Kansas. The problem is that some of these incentives are excessive and unneeded. I believe the advantage of the incentive must outweigh the cost of the incentive.
Pro-Life: Not only is it important to take life seriously for unborn children, but also protect beliefs and values of those who work in the Health Care Industry. No worker should be forced to partake in a procedure that they feel is immoral or against their beliefs. I personally applaud the work of Kansans for Life: www.kfl.org
